TRIGGER
JOB CLASS
WORLD SPEED SHOOT OFF 2004
The trigger
job class will be held on Tuesday, June 15.
There are two options available for those
interested in the class.
The first option is to monitor the class, take
notes, observe the actual process of doing a trigger
job on a 1911, and asking questions.
The charge to monitor the class is $175.00. The second option is to actually bring your single stack 1911
and do a trigger job on it.
This option requires that you purchase the
parts and some special tools.
The charge for this option is $200 for the
instruction and $325.01 for the tools and parts that
you purchase from us. You will also need to
purchase a couple of ceramic stones from Brownells.
The trigger
job class will start at 9 AM and last most of the day.
There will be a limit of 3 students who can
participate in actually doing a trigger job to their
pistols. There
will be a limit of 2 students who monitor the class.
Should there be no students who wish to
actually do a trigger job on their pistol, I will
personally do a trigger job to demonstrate
the techniques of performing a trigger job on a 1911.
The
following is a list of tools that the students who
elect to do a trigger job must bring to class with
them.
4 shop towels
1 1911 single
stack pistol that is extremely clean.
I don’t really care which single stack 1911
you bring as long as it clean.
Do not bring a Para Ordnance high capacity or
Para Ordnance LDA pistol.
The 1911 must have a traditional type action.
The tools
necessary to completely disassemble your 1911.
A small high
intensity flash light such as a Mini-Mag Light.
A magnifier
with a power of 5X to 10X.
These types of magnifiers are available at most
hobby shops. The
handiest ones have two or three lenses that you can
use separately for lower power or together for higher
power.
Brownells sells a nice one on page 206, catalogue #56,
part # 345-534-002. If you are over 45 years of
age you probably need to get a magnifier that fits on
your head. You will have to be able to see very
small parts and differences when you are doing your
trigger job. One of the most popular brands is
OPTIVISOR and is sold by Brownells on page 206,
catalogue #56, part # 255-002-000. Don't buy an
Optivisor with a higher power than the one that I
recommend as you will have a headache by the end of
the day. I use a 1.75X and find that to be
enough. If your magnifiers are too powerful you
will tire your eyes and have trouble seeing a large
enough area. You will use your small hand held
magnifier for really close inspection at higher
power.
Safety Glasses
Dial Calipers, only bring steel ones as the plastic
ones are not accurate. Digital calipers are okay
but real calipers don't use batteries.
A small vise that you can clamp on the table top with
a 6" C clamp. The jaws on the vise should
be 3" to 4" wide.
1 roll of 1" masking tape
Trigger pull gauge sold by Brownells on page 7,
catalogue #56, part # 747-094-500
The tool
kit that you purchase from Cylinder & Slide will
contain:
1- 8” file
1- file handle
1- flat needle file
1- 6”x ½”x ½” fine India stone
1- Powers Type One sear jig with 1911 sear and hammer
adapter that has been tuned
The
parts kit that you will purchase from Cylinder &
Slide will contain:
1- #CS212
Tactical II chamfered 5 piece trigger pull kit
1- #CS181 Long
Aluminum match trigger with overtravel stop
The total
price for all of he items that you will purchase from
Cylinder & Slide, Inc. is $325.01 plus the course
fee of $200.00 totals $525.01.
This trigger
pull kit is designed to be set up as a 4lb trigger
pull. We will use this set to do your stone work
on. If you would also like to try your hand at
setting up a 2.5 to 3.5 lb trigger pull you will also
need to purchase one of our CS209 Super Match 3 piece
trigger pull sets. The cost of this set is
$111.28. This set is an option so you still need
to purchase the CS212 set to practice stoning on.
You will need
to purchase the following ceramic stones from
Brownells catalogue #56, page 214, part #
080-721-621. This is a two stone set containing
1-6"x1/2"x1/2" extra fine ceramic stone
and 1-6"x1/2"x1/2" fine ceramic stone.
To
hold your slot in the class you need to pay Cylinder
& Slide $525.01 by April 15. You may call
and use your credit card, or send us a cashiers check
or money order.
I promise you
that you will get more information on performing and
trouble shooting trigger pulls on the 1911 than you
thought possible.
This is why it will take all day to complete
the class.
Thanks
Bill
